Indirect water heater is an indispensable household appliance, a powerful device that serves warm water to all domestic activities, especially in the cold weather. So, how does an indirect water heater work to bring you warm water? Let's learn about the structure and operation of a Frisch water heater. A. Fundamental structure of an indirect water heater
1. Housing The housing is normally made of ABS plastic and IPX waterproof. The waterproof grade maybe IPX1, IPX4, ..., depending on the brand. For Frisch water heaters, the housing is IPX4 waterproof. 2. PUF insulation PUF insulation functions to maintain the water heat long after the heater is turned off. The thicker this layer is, the longer the heat is maintained and the more energy is saved. It also works as a waterproof and fireproof layer. 3. Inner tank This is where the water is retained inside the water heater. It is common that the tank inside is lined with a protective coating of Titanium, artificial diamonds ..., which help prevent water corrosion and leakage, while protecting components and prolonging the useful time of the heater. 4. Magnesium anode rod Magnesium anode rod is an essential component of coated heaters. As a principle, since the enamel coating cannot completely cover the metal inner surface of the tank, there will be tiny exposed points that cannot be seen by naked eyes. The anode rod functions to protect the exposed points and prevent punctures of the tank. Note: The Magnesium anode rod needs to be replaced about every 2 years so as to prolong the heater useful life. 5. Control knob This part allows changing the water temperature. For some new generations of indirect heater, it may be replaced with a control panel or touch screen. Particularly for Frisch water heater, no direct contact is required. You just use the Frisch app pre-installed on your Smartphone to customize the temperature for each family member. Such a great convenience, time-saving and safety. 6. Immersion rod This part directly heats the water in the tank. It is commonly made of bronze. Some high-class heater use better materials such as 304 stainless steel. 7. Thermal relay This element keeps the water in the tank under the maximum temperature. In case of excessive heat, the thermal relay automatically switches off the heating function so as to ensure safety. 8. Cold water inlet Cold water is fed into the tank through this inlet. After that, the immersion rod heats up the water. 9. Hot water outlet Hot water comes out through this outlet. 10. Pressure relief valve This ensures the heater inner pressure not to exceed the allowable limit during heating. Note: Install the pressure relief valve at the inlet so that the discharged water is cool and poses no threats.
B. How an indirect water heater works For the water heater to work, you need a hot/cold dispenser. A direct water heater has only one outlet, whereas an indirect water heater conveniently allows various water outlets. One advantage of indirect water heaters is the large tank where water is heated once and used for many times. You can fix extra outlets of hot water at bathtubs, bathroom sinks, kitchen sinks,... It is up to you.
The tank inside the indirect water heater is always filled with water even when it is not in use, in order to prevent the risk of fire and explosion. Whenever the water in the tank reaches the permissible temperature, the thermal relay automatically switches off the heating function to save energy. Then you can use the hot water in the tank. Hot water is brought to the hot/cold dispenser, where it is mixed with cold water for the most appropriate temperature. To adjust the output temperature of water, you just turn the lever further left or right. In most cases, turning the lever further left will trigger the hot water flow and vice versa, turning it further right will open the cold water flow.
When using an indirect water heater, you heat up the water once and use it up until the tank is empty. Experts recommend that you should only turn on the water heater 15 minutes to 1 hour before use, rather than switching it on 24/24, so as to save power and secure safety for users. To save the downtime for waiting, Frisch water heater integrates Wifi control technology, which helps you to turn on and off remotely and adjust the water temperature via the Frisch app on your smartphone.
